Hal’s Cornhole League
Season 29 | 4/22-6/24
Tournament 7/1
Welcome to Season 29!
The schedule will be posted below each week.
It is strongly requested that you read the details, rules & regulations. Knowing or at least having a general understanding of the rules & details will make the nights run smoothly. I am always available for questions, but after years of experience, I promise it will be easier if you take the time to read it.
Full transparency: I make the schedules week-to-week. You are able to request a specific time, but that does not necessarily mean you will be able to have that time slot each week. I do try to accommodate as much as I can. The schedules will be available on Sunday nights at the latest. If something changes and I’m not able to post until Monday am, I will let you know via email.
We’re all here to have a good time. If you’re here for fun, getting together with your friends, enjoying a night away, eating amazing food & drinking delicious drinks, you’re in the right place. Have fun & don’t take it too seriously. Thanks for joining our league & cheers to a great season!

• You must be 21+ to play
• A team can have up to 3 main players but you must have at least 2. You can rotate players between games. A player who starts the game, must finish the game. Example: Player A & Player B start the first game, Play A can sit out & Player C comes in for game 2. If the match goes to 3 games, Player B can sit out while Players A & C play.
• 4 people are not permitted to play in the same night. For instance, if all 3 of your main players are present & you also have an alternate there, one player must sit out the entire night. This rule also applies for the tournament. (More about the tournament rules below.)
• If you need to use alternates, at least 1 of your main players must play every week. If 1 of your main players cannot be there you will have to forfeit.
• Your alternate(s) is/are not allowed to be from another team in Season 27.
-
• Best of 3 games played in 40 minutes (win 2 out of 3 games, you win the match—you must win by 2.).
• The boards are placed 27 feet apart (front to front).
• Before your match starts if you need to flip a coin or rock/paper/scissors or however else you want to decide, please do so to determine who stands where. If it really doesn't matter to either team, that's great, but just remember the next two preexisting rules.
• Team partners face each other from opposite boards standing directly across from each other.
• When you switch boards after a game, you must stay in your lane standing directly across from where you were.
• Play starts at either board with all eight bags.
• Each team plays with a set of 4 bags and each team has their own color bag. The color you choose in the beginning of the match, is the color you will keep unless otherwise decided by both teams to switch them up.
• Opponents alternate tosses until all 8 bags are played.
• The round is then scored (see scoring).
• Players must switch ends remaining directly across from each other.
• Repeat the play from the other end and the highest scoring team from the previous throw has honors.
• There will be 5 minutes in between games to allow for set-up.
-
• The first team to get 21 or more points wins (You must win by 2).
• If you are all tied up at 40 minutes, then the first team to score after all bags are tossed wins.
• A team earns 1 point for bags on the board, they cannot hit the ground and then bounce on the board, nor can they be touching the ground. It is appropriate to remove all bags from the board that hit the ground first, this is done before play is continued.
• A team earns 3 points for bags that go into the hole. They must go completely in the hole. Bags that are hanging in the hole only count for 1 point. If your opponent knocks your bag into the hole you will get the 3 points.
• The score is the difference in the team totals. The team with the higher score in an inning earns the difference in points. For instance, if Team A scores 5 points and Team B scores 2 points in an inning, Team A earns 3 points for that inning.
-
• Practicing has to be agreed upon by both teams as it will also eat into your time.
• If you are late, it eats into your allotted time.
• If you are 10 minutes late, you automatically forfeit the first game (best out of 3 games in a 40-minute match). If you are 15 minutes late you automatically forfeit the game for the week.
• If you are a no call/no show twice you automatically forfeit the entire season without a refund. You can avoid this by simply texting me that you are unable to come.
• Rescheduling is not an option this season.
• If a complete rainout occurs, we will not be making up that week’s games; the regular season will still end on June 18. If we get rained out after we started playing, the teams that didn’t get to play that night, will have doubleheaders the following week. If the rain occurs during a match, we will make note of the pit you’re playing on, the location of each player, who has the bags & what the score is. Yes, it’s as confusing as it sounds. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen!

The tournament will be on Tuesday, 6/25. Every team is in the tournament, your record is how you are seeded. Your arrival time will be based on your seed.
There is a lot of information below that will be super beneficial to you. Please try to take the time to read through it especially because there are other rules that are tournament based. I am always available to answer your questions by email halsbar@gmail.com or by texting me at 412-445-0232. If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to make it, please let me know.
The first round of games will start promptly at 6:20pm. There will be time to kill for some of you, but these games move along quickly & sometimes people don't show up, so getting there on time is for your own benefit. If you are not there when your team is called to play, you will have to forfeit. Please pay attention to the rules/regulations below.
The brackets will be hanging up outside that night. Full transparency: I use bracket generators on the internet to create the brackets—I enter the team names based on your seed & it generates the bracket for me. When there is more than one team with the same record, your seed is based on who signed up first.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- It is a bit chaotic. Please bear with me & be patient.
- Parking will be minimal, consider carpooling.
- When you arrive, please check in with me. I will be near the brackets.
- I will be adding an extra pit to speed things up.
- The opponents of the teams who are not able to come will automatically advance to the next round.
- As soon as a pit opens up, I will fill it with another match up. Since there is no time limit for these games, there is no way for me to be able to tell you when you're going to be playing. So, please try to refrain from asking. I honestly have no idea how long the games will take.RULES & REGULATIONS:
- Arrive no later than the time you are given. You will receive an email from me to tell you what your arrival time will be.
- Single elimination.
- One match, best of 3 games to 21, you must win by 2. (win 2 out of 3 games, you win the match).
- No time limit.
- At least one of your main players must play at all times. Main players are identified on the roster. A Main Player is defined below under the rules.
- If all of your main players can be at the tourney, you are not permitted to use an alternate.
- If you have a third person on your roster and that person has not played in a single game during the season, that person is not eligible to play in the tournament despite being on the roster.
- You can only use an alternate if that person has played at least one game with you during the regular season. You will be disqualified if you use someone else as a sub. They are not allowed to be from another team. Your alternate must be registered with me prior to the tournament night along with the night they played.
- Your team will not be eligible to play in the tournament if you did not have your alternate play in at least one game during the season or if any of your main players on the roster cannot show for the tournament.
- You cannot switch players in the middle of a game. Please wait for that game to be over. For instance, if you are in game 2 of the match, but your partner needs to step away for whatever reason, another player is not allowed to step in to finish the game. You will need to forfeit.
- Your feet must remain behind the cornhole board when you are throwing.
- Higher seed throws first.
- You must stand directly across from your partner & remain in the same lane when you go onto games 2 & 3. (Unless it is agreed upon between the teams to switch it up.)
- Where you stand at the boards is not predetermined by who gets to the boards first. Before your match starts if you need to flip a coin or rock/paper/scissors or however else you want to decide, please do so to determine who stands where. If it really doesn't matter to either team, that's great, but just remember the preexisting rules mentioned above.
- You must keep the same bags you started the match with. (Unless it is agreed upon between the teams to switch it up.) For instance, if your team started with red, but want to switch to black for the second game, both teams will have to agree to this.
- Cash prizes for 1st & 2nd place for all three leagues will be listed on the brackets.Reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
